Artwork and Judging Criteria

Students must submit artwork that meets the criteria listed below, along with an Artist’s Statement of no more than 200 words explaining how their piece reflects the Power of Dreaming theme.

Note: Art selected for the exhibition requires the artist, school, or parent/guardian to deliver the artwork to The Cleveland Foundry, 1831 Columbus Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44113. Dates will be provided with notification of selected artwork on February 25, 2026.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated as follows and judged in two separate categories: Grades 6–8 and Grades 9–12.:

Interpretation of Theme (40 points): How well the artwork and artist’s statement reflect the theme.
Creativity (30 points): Originality of concept and effectiveness of presentation.
Technique & Skill (30 points): Demonstrated ability, craftsmanship, and use of materials.

Submission Guidelines and Requirements

Size and Medium

All artwork must be matted and unframed.
Maximum size: 24″ x 24″.
Artwork will be displayed on walls using 3M hooks with a weight restriction of 5 lbs.

Due to space limitations, we are unable to accept any 3-dimensional artwork. Artwork must not extend more than 1/4 “ from canvas, board, or paper.

Photographing Artwork – Tips for Submission

Submit your file in .jpeg format.
Place artwork on a flat surface and keep the camera level to avoid distortion. Hanging the piece on a wall before photographing is also a good option.
Ensure lighting is even, without glare or shadows.
Double-check that the photo is sharp, clear, and free of blur before submitting

Note: Artwork will first be judged electronically. Selected pieces will then move forward to in person judging for exhibition.
